REVIEW TIME
Here was my initial review on goodreads:
Characters:
I love how down to Earth Dara is. She is a teenage girl caught up in a fantasy mess! I think she is incredibly powerful and considering her young age, she is really mature. I think she still has the kind of lack of confidence of a teenager, but is so mature. Overall, I think she is developed well and is probably my favourite female rather popular ones!
Diego is a mysterious character but a lovable one. Not only is he loyal, but he's cool and collected in the worst situations. He has a heart of gold and pulled out all of the stops as a supporting character, if that makes any sense...
As for Gunarik, well he is one nasty piece of work! On one hand I think he is an arise, but on the other hand I feel sorry for him...hear me out on this one. I feel sorry for him because it can't be easy being filled with so much hate, anger and angst. He had a tough life but it doesn't excuse his actions.
Plot:
Okay so this is majorly hard to describe because this book is so plot-based. However I'm gonna shed some light on my feelings for the plot rather than explain what happens. You'll just have to read it for yourself!
To begin with, I found it really hard to understand the plot and get it straight in my head, but it isn't long before you have a grasp on it and by the end you are totally speaking the language of this book like its everyday knowledge.
I found it a bit coincidental the way Dara just happens to be THE ONE who gets the Jyotisha (magical healing armband). I kinda just dealt with that and to be fair Dara is such a down to Earth character that it made sense and she wasn't clued in on anything. So basically what I'm trying to say is that she is an everyday, normal teenager who even though she has an AMAZING thing like the Jyotisha, doesn't change. She is still so down to Earth that I love it.
There are twists and turns that you don't see coming at all and just when you think the book is wrapping up...it isn't! Then you're like Hey there's more? Like 50 pages? What else can happen?! So much has already happened?!
I really loved the ending too, I thought that it fit perfectly because there were casualties and everything wasn't exactly perfect and Dara wasn't a saint like oh no I can do no evil. To be fair she gets pretty darn evil, but for good reasoning.
Overall feelings:
My overall feelings after reading this book are...
"INTENSE, PLOT-BASED READ!"
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone really. It's a nice short read, bit of YA, bit of contemporary, bit of fantasy. I think everyone would be able to identify something they like in this book whether it's a magical part, a realistic part or an intense part! Read it ASAP!
